The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has strongly condemned the targeted killing of lawyer Khalid Khan, president of the Dargai Tehsil Bar Association, in Malakand district on 28 August 2025.
In a statement shared on X, the HRCP said such attacks on members of the legal community gravely undermine the rule of law and erode public confidence in justice and accountability.
The commission urged the authorities to ensure that the joint investigation team (JIT) formed to probe Mr. Khan’s murder carries out an urgent and impartial inquiry. It further called for bringing the perpetrators to justice while providing adequate protection to Mr. Khan’s family.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns among legal and human rights circles, with many stressing that repeated attacks on lawyers not only endanger individuals but also weaken the foundations of Pakistan’s justice system.
