PPP’s Sehar Kamran Warns of Looming Collapse at PTV
PPP Lawmaker Flags Politicized Appointments, Salary Delays at PTV

Islamabad, September 5, 2025 — Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader, MNA Sehar Kamran has written to Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, Pullain Baloch, highlighting what she termed “grave financial and governance challenges” at Pakistan Television (PTV).
In her letter, Kamran warned that PTV is facing a severe financial crisis that has left the state broadcaster unable to pay salaries to its employees. She noted that the elimination of the monthly license fee had collapsed the organization’s revenue model, pushing it towards what she described as “complete institutional paralysis.”
The PPP MNA further pointed to politically motivated appointments, saying such decisions have undermined professional standards and eroded PTV’s credibility. “Instead of bringing stability, these appointments have accelerated the decline of PTV as a national broadcaster,” she observed.
Kamran also drew attention to the reputational damage caused by derogatory remarks made by current affairs anchor Rizwan ur Rehman, also known as Razi, in a vlog that went viral online. She urged the committee to investigate the matter and direct the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to report on actions taken against the anchor.
Calling for urgent reforms, Kamran recommended that the ministry present a clear roadmap to stabilize PTV’s finances, ensure merit-based appointments, rationalize staffing, and improve programming quality. “Professional and high-quality programming is essential for restoring the broadcaster’s credibility,” she stressed.
She concluded by requesting that these matters be given priority in the agenda of the committee’s upcoming meeting.
