Thailand Showcases UNESCO Creative Cities with Sustainable Tourism Push
Officials noted that the initiative not only strengthens the local economy but also reinforces Thailand’s place in the international Creative Cities Network.

Bangkok: The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), has launched a new initiative to promote sustainable tourism by spotlighting UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network.
The program began in Suphan Buri, officially recognized as a Creative City of Music, where local culture and musical heritage have been transformed into immersive travel experiences.
As part of the project, workshops and in-depth interviews were conducted with local partners — including the Provincial Cultural Office, Suphan Buri Chamber of Commerce, YEC Suphan Buri, U Thong Ancient City, the National Museum, and community tourism groups. Together, stakeholders co-designed unique travel routes that highlight Suphan Buri’s cultural identity.
The key highlight was the prototype route, “Suphan Living Rhythm: Explore the City of Music,” which was tested by tourism experts, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and influencers before being prepared for launch in the global market.
Officials noted that the initiative not only strengthens the local economy but also reinforces Thailand’s place in the international Creative Cities Network.
Looking ahead, similar projects are planned for seven other UNESCO Creative Cities in Thailand — Sukhothai, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Phetchaburi, and Bangkok — along with Nakhon Ratchasima, a province that uniquely holds three UNESCO designations: World Heritage, Biosphere Reserve, and Geopark.
