23rd AIBD General Conference Opens in Phuket with Strategic Focus on Media, Peace, and Sustainability
Three-day regional media summit brings together over 100 representatives from 24 countries

Phuket, Thailand — Thailand has officially opened the 23rd General Conference of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) on Tuesday, a three-day gathering of more than 100 media representatives from 24 countries, hosted by the Government Public Relations Department (PRD) under the theme “Media for People, Peace, and Prosperity.”
The conference began on Tuesday morning with strategic planning sessions focused on shaping AIBD’s future direction. Delegates are working to refine comprehensive strategies that will guide the organization’s operations across the Asia-Pacific region.
In the afternoon, PRD Director-General Sudrutai Lertkasem chaired the Executive Board (EXBO) meeting, where members reviewed operational and budgetary reports and discussed amendments to the AIBD Strategic Plan 2025–2029. The revised plan will be presented during the full General Conference on August 20.
Sudrutai expressed her honor at Thailand being chosen as host, calling it an opportunity to strengthen global cooperation. “This reflects international recognition of Thailand’s role in the media sector and allows us to exchange knowledge with major global media organizations,” she said. “Together, we can elevate Thai media standards to international levels and contribute to shaping the future of broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific region.”
The Strategic Planning Team (SPT) presented major proposals, including preparations for the Asia Media Summit 2026, which will be held in the Maldives. Delegates emphasized themes of environmental sustainability and technological innovation, aligning with AIBD’s mission to act as a forward-looking and globally conscious media organization.
PRD policies echo this direction, highlighting the media’s role in raising environmental awareness. Initiatives under discussion include promoting renewable energy, digital conservation technologies, and responsible resource management. The framework also encourages practical measures such as reducing paper use and adopting clean energy solutions to foster environmentally responsible societies.
The conference also marks a leadership milestone, with Ms. Sudrutai Lertkasem officially assuming the chairmanship of AIBD’s Executive Board. Her appointment underscores Thailand’s commitment to advancing sustainable and innovative media development across the region.
The 23rd AIBD General Conference continues through August 21 in Phuket, with participants set to finalize strategies that will guide the organization over the next five years.
