Khalid Gill Demands Reserved Seats for Christians in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir Assemblies
He urged that at least two reserved seats—one for a Christian woman and one for a Christian man—be allocated in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly in the upcoming elections.

Lahore – June 19, 2025:
Khalid Gill, minority leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and party's ticket holder, has formally sent two separate letters to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, seeking the allocation of reserved seats for Christians in the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Assembly.
In his letter addressed to Bilawal Bhutto and Advocate Amjad Ali Shah (President PPP Gilgit-Baltistan), Khalid Gul emphasized the historical role of Pakistani Christians in the freedom, protection, and educational development of the region. He pointed out that despite Christians being permanent residents of Gilgit-Baltistan since pre-partition days and being politically active with the PPP, the Christian community still faces denial of basic civic documentation such as domicile, national ID cards, and voting rights.
He urged that at least two reserved seats—one for a Christian woman and one for a Christian man—be allocated in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly in the upcoming elections.
In a separate letter to Bilawal Bhutto and Ch. Yasin (President PPP AJK), Khalid Gill highlighted similar concerns for Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He mentioned that Christians, who have resided in AJK for generations and contributed to its development, are still without representation in the legislative assembly. He again called for two reserved seats for Christians in the 2026 elections in AJK.
“These are long-standing demands of the Christian community,” stated Khalid Gill, adding that he hopes the PPP leadership will uphold its commitment to inclusivity and minority rights.
He has written letters as a longtime and loyal PPP leader and ticket-holder for the 2008 general elections.
