Prediction of calamities, climate change a must for life: PU VC
LAHORE: (Friday, April 25, 2025): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has said that it is very important to predict natural disasters and climate change for survival of life on earth and solve problems. He said that it is a matter of pride for our nation that Pakistan’s first astronaut will go into space in 2026 with the help of China. He was addressing a seminar organized by Punjab University Institute of Space Science in collaboration with SUPARCO on Pakistan’s first astronaut with an incredible journey to the Chinese space station in 2026 at the auditorium of the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology here on Friday. On this occasion, Director Institute of Space Science Prof Dr Syed Amir Mahmood, Deputy Managers SUPARCO Pakistan Dr Syed Amir Gilani, Dr Sobia, Director School of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Dr Muhammad Khurshid, Chairperson Department of Physics Prof Dr Munza Zulfiqar Ali, President Academic Staff Association Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi, Member Syndicate Prof Dr Muhammad Nasir, Dr Amir Masood Chishti, Dr Jahanzeb Qureshi, Kashif Nazir, Dr Athar Javed, and a large number of students were present. In his address, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali stressed the need to promote interdisciplinary research to address social issues. He said that the Ravi River has turned into a sewage canal, while industrial sewage water in Faisalabad goes into the Chenab. He said that water cannot be taken out without treatment. He said that we were not born in the world to earn money but to gain knowledge and we should educate children according to their talent. He said that Allama Iqbal was not a technologist, but no one greater than him was born in the subcontinent. He said that Russia sent a shuttle into space 71 years ago. He said that Pakistanis are one of the most intelligent nations in the world but we have lagged behind due to lack of right direction and thinking. He said that the standard of honor is knowledge and piety, not wealth and power. He said that we all have to work together for the betterment of our country. He said that one day we would launch a space shuttle from our country. Dr Syed Amir Mahmood said that space science is a broad field with which botany, zoology, materials science, biotechnology, biochemistry and other fields can achieve good results if they work together. Dr Syed Amir Gilani and Dr Sobia gave detailed talks to the participants on space technology.
