LAHORE: Prominent Pakistani business leader Khawaja Shahzaib Akram has resigned from the Pakistan Industrial and Traders Front (PIAF) and pledged complete backing to the Vision Alliance ahead of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) elections, scheduled for September 23-24.

Akram announced his decision at a packed press conference held at Royal Palm, Lahore, attended by a large cross-section of the city's business community. Organizers described it as the biggest turnout of the entire election campaign so far, underscoring the respect and goodwill Akram commands among local traders and industrialists.

Addressing the gathering, Akram said he and his colleagues had remained loyal to PIAF and made every effort to support the organization, but that this loyalty had not been reciprocated. He said the time had come to part ways "with dignity and respect."

While clarifying that he has not formally joined any other group, Akram said he would work wholeheartedly to secure victory for the Vision Alliance in the upcoming LCCI polls.

27 PIAF Executive Members Resign, Join Vision Alliance

In a major development, Akram revealed that 27 members of PIAF's Executive Committee have resigned and thrown their support behind the Vision Alliance. He added that the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers' Association (PPMA), along with several other trade and industrial bodies, have also pledged full cooperation to the alliance.

Akram said the Vision Alliance is committed to the welfare of the business community, promoting trade and industry, resolving longstanding sector issues, and ensuring effective representation for Lahore's traders and industrialists in the chamber.

Vision Alliance Leadership Present

The press conference was attended by key Vision Alliance figures, including Mian Misbah-ur-Rehman, Khawaja Waseem Afzal, Nasir Hamid Khan, Chaudhry Muhammad Amjad, Muhammad Ibrahim, Khawaja Jahanzeb Akram, Mian Khadim Hussain, Mian Aziz-ur-Rehman Chann, Pir Syed Nazim Hussain Shah, Safdar Butt, Usman Safdar Butt, Sohail Butt, Mian Zahid Javed, Shahid Nazir, and Haris Atiq.

Presidential candidate Ali Hassam Asghar and Executive Committee candidate Mardan Ali Zaidi were also present, along with Hafiz Sajjad, Shahab Bashir, and numerous other business leaders, association office-bearers, election candidates, and members of the media.

The LCCI elections on September 23-24 are expected to be closely watched, with the Vision Alliance's growing momentum following Akram's defection seen as a significant shake-up in Lahore's business and trade politics.
