President Trump ‘Very, Very Committed’ to Ending Gaza War, Says Saudi FM
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan al Saud, has expressed optimism that a ceasefire in Gaza could soon be reached
Riyadh/Washington: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan al Saud, has expressed optimism that a ceasefire in Gaza could soon be reached, saying US President Donald Trump is “very, very committed” to ending the conflict.
Speaking in an interview with Sky News after a recent meeting between Trump and Arab leaders, Prince Faisal said the talks went “very well” and gave him hope that peace efforts were gaining momentum.
“The war has gone on for far too long, too many people have died, and we have a famine going on in Gaza right now,” the foreign minister said. “I got the sense from the meeting that President Trump is very, very committed to finding a path to ending the war, bringing the hostages out, and bringing relief to the people of Gaza. I’m actually hopeful that we’ve started the dialogue that’s going to get us towards achieving this ceasefire.”
His comments come as international pressure on Israel intensifies following a United Nations commission report accusing the Israeli military of committing genocide in Gaza — an allegation Israel has “categorically rejected.”
In recent weeks, several Western countries, including the United Kingdom, have formally recognised Palestine as a state, while some Israeli ministers have called for annexing the West Bank in response.
Prince Faisal stressed that Trump appeared to understand the dangers of such annexation and recognised the urgency of ending the conflict.
Following the Saudi minister’s remarks, Trump himself echoed the stance, telling reporters at the White House on Thursday: “I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank… It’s not gonna happen. There’s been enough.”
The Saudi foreign minister’s statements underscore Riyadh’s growing role in pushing for an immediate ceasefire, as well as Washington’s renewed involvement in Middle East peace efforts under Trump’s administration.
