PRD Strengthens Thai–Chinese Media Cooperation with People’s Daily

Both sides emphasized that PRD and People’s Daily are long-standing partners with strong ties.

Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem, Director-General of the Government Public Relations Department (PRD), together with Mr. Kasemsant Weerakun, Advisor to the Director-General, and the Thai delegation, held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Yu Xiaoliang, President of People’s Daily, and senior executives on the opening day of the Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road in Kunming.
Both sides emphasized that PRD and People’s Daily are long-standing partners with strong ties. Mr. Yu highlighted that People’s Daily recognized Thailand’s strategic importance, making it one of only six overseas bureaus worldwide, reflecting close cooperation. He also shared insights on the newspaper’s transformation from a traditional daily to a comprehensive digital platform, stressing the mission to deliver quality, trustworthy content and counter disinformation in today’s fast-paced media landscape.
Director-General Sudruetai expressed appreciation to People’s Daily for its continued support and collaboration in global media arenas, such as the recent Media Showcase at the AIBD General Conference in Phuket hosted by PRD in August. She also affirmed confidence that following the signing of an MoU next year, PRD and People’s Daily will join hands in delivering reliable, timely, and borderless information to audiences in both countries.
On 16 September 2025, Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem, Director-General of the Government Public Relations Department (PRD), together with Mr. Kasemsant Weerakun, Advisor to the Director-General, led the Thai delegation to the 2025 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road & the 11th 10+3 Media Cooperation Forum in Kunming, Yunnan Province, People’s Republic of China.
Co-hosted by People’s Daily and the City of Kunming, the annual forum brought together more than 200 senior media executives from 87 countries and international organizations along the Belt and Road routes.
The opening ceremony was held in grand fashion with the participation of key Chinese leaders, including Mr. Zheng Jianbang, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Mr. Wang Ning, Secretary of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Yunnan Provincial People’s Congress, Mr. Yu Xiaoliang, President of People’s Daily, and Mr. Chen Jianwen, Executive Editor-in-Chief of People’s Daily. The event also featured cultural performances showcasing the achievements of international media cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
On this occasion, the PRD Director-General delivered a keynote address in the High-Level Executive Session under the theme “Shared Media Responsibility for Exchange and Mutual Learning among Civilizations.” She underlined that the role of the media goes beyond reporting facts—it also serves as a “bridge of mutual understanding.” She further highlighted the 50th Anniversary of Thailand–China Diplomatic Relations, reflecting the deep friendship between the two nations over the past five decades.
The annual forum, spearheaded by People’s Daily, serves as a vital platform to strengthen global media cooperation, fostering mutual understanding, trust, and prosperity under the Belt and Road Initiative.
