UNICEF Delegation Meets Human Rights Minister to Strengthen Child Protection Efforts

Islamabad: A delegation from UNICEF, led by Country Representative Pernille Ironside, met with Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar at the Ministry of Human Rights to discuss ways to enhance cooperation on child rights in Pakistan.
Welcoming the delegation, Senator Tarar expressed confidence that Ms. Ironside’s tenure in Pakistan would be productive and rewarding. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting child rights and ensuring a safe, supportive environment for every child.
The discussions centered on strengthening child protection mechanisms, preventing abuse, and developing a multi-year work plan with UNICEF to shield children from violence and exploitation.
Ms. Ironside praised Pakistan’s recent initiatives, highlighting the passage of the Child Marriage Restraint Act and other progressive policy steps aimed at child welfare. She reiterated UNICEF’s readiness to continue working closely with the government to build stronger safeguards for children nationwide.
Both sides agreed to pursue their shared vision through closer collaboration and coordination, with the aim of achieving concrete progress in advancing the welfare and protection of children across Pakistan.
