Lahore (Special Correspondent) — Saleem Shakir, member of the Chief Minister’s Minority Advisory Council Punjab, has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to restore the name “Justice Cornelius Gate” at the main entrance of Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

In a statement, Shakir said that on August 22, 2025, he officially wrote a letter to PCB Chairman Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Chief Operating Officer Syed Sameer Ahmed, requesting that the historic plaque removed during the recent renovation be reinstalled.

He noted that the gate was originally named after Justice Alvin Robert Cornelius, former Chief Justice of Pakistan, who was not only a distinguished jurist and a man of integrity but also a great supporter of cricket in the country. “Removing his name is tantamount to erasing a vital part of our national history,” Shakir emphasized.

He further said that Justice Cornelius had served Pakistan with great distinction and, as a patron of the PCB, played a crucial role in promoting the sport. “His legacy is part of our collective memory, and overlooking his name would be unjust,” he added.

Appealing to civil society, community members, and all citizens, Shakir urged support for his campaign to preserve the legacy of Justice Cornelius. “Let us all join hands in calling on the PCB to restore the name ‘Justice Cornelius Gate’ at Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore,” he said.
