Karoline Leavitt Slams White House Press Corps for ‘Rooting Against Peace’ as Trump Pushes Historic Diplomacy
She blasted what she described as a hostile media establishment, saying reporters are not only skeptical but “actively rooting against the President in the pursuit of peace.”

Washington, D.C., August 20, 2025 — White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt delivered a fiery defense of President Donald Trump’s foreign policy on Tuesday, accusing the mainstream press of openly working against the administration’s peace initiatives.
Leavitt blasted what she described as a hostile media establishment, saying reporters are not only skeptical but “actively rooting against the President in the pursuit of peace.” She argued that the press corps has abandoned objectivity in favor of partisanship, seeking to discredit Trump’s efforts before they even bear fruit.
The remarks come after several outlets dismissed the President’s high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska as a “failure.” Leavitt pushed back hard, noting that the session was designed as a strategic listening forum and a first step toward ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
“Much of the left-wing media has been working overtime to undermine this President — not because the talks failed, but because they fear his success. They cannot stand the idea that Donald Trump might achieve peace where others have only delivered endless conflict,” Leavitt said.
She reminded reporters that Trump has already built a record of securing peace, pointing to the Abraham Accords and his history of reducing tensions in regions long plagued by war. She accused the press of deliberately ignoring these achievements in order to preserve their anti-Trump narrative.
Leavitt also highlighted the President’s follow-up talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders as proof of ongoing progress, stressing that diplomacy takes patience and persistence.
Criticizing the press further, she said:
“This is exactly why Americans’ trust in the media has collapsed to the lowest point in more than fifty years. Instead of supporting peace, the press is cheering for failure. That tells you everything you need to know about their priorities.”
The administration insists that Trump’s peace initiative is gaining traction and that future summits, including a planned trilateral meeting, will build on this momentum.
For the White House, the real obstacle is not global diplomacy — but a press corps unwilling to acknowledge that Trump’s unconventional approach may be delivering results.
