Female Sanitation Workers Empowered Through BELIEF Project Training Session by ISCOS and PUWF
Under the BELIEF Project, ISCOS and PUWF conducted a training session for female sanitation workers on hygiene and well-being, distributing essential kits and promoting inclusive labor empowerment across Pakistan.

Lahore – Under the BELIEF Project, ISCOS – Trade Union Institute for Development Cooperation, in collaboration with the Pakistan United Workers Federation (PUWF), successfully organized a significant awareness and training session focused on the personal hygiene and well-being of female sanitation workers. The event also included the distribution of essential personal hygiene gift packs to all participants.
The PUWF, which represents nearly 700 affiliated unions across Pakistan, played a central role in supporting and executing this initiative, highlighting the importance of dignity, health, and rights for sanitation workers—one of the most overlooked sectors of the labor force.
Speaking at the event, Sohail Alam, Member of the Minority Advisory Council Punjab and Co-Convener of the Standing Committee on Human Rights at LCCI, praised the initiative, saying, “It was a privilege to engage in an insightful discussion with Mr. Zauq Akhtar, Director Programme at ISCOS, a dynamic professional whose vision for community development in Punjab is truly commendable.”
He further acknowledged the efforts of Ch. Saad Muhammad, General Secretary of PUWF, calling him “a friendly yet compelling personality whose leadership continues to inspire thousands across the labour movement.” Sohail Alam also lauded Mr. Rizwan, General Secretary of the Green Clean Union (LWMC), for his dedicated role in mobilizing the sanitary workers and ensuring smooth execution of the training.
“This initiative is a significant step forward in empowering our sanitation workers, strengthening communities, and fostering sustainable change across Pakistan,” Mr. Alam added. “Heartfelt appreciation to ISCOS-BELIEF and the Pakistan United Workers Federation for their joint efforts in organizing this meaningful awareness session. This is an example of meaningful action that uplifts the most essential and yet often forgotten members of our community.”
He concluded by saying, “I’m deeply honored and thankful for being invited to be a part of this impactful session. Together, we move toward a more inclusive and responsible society.”
The event was a testament to the growing recognition of the role of sanitation workers in public health and urban infrastructure. By addressing their needs and rights, projects like BELIEF lay the foundation for a fairer, healthier, and more inclusive future for all.
