Islamabad (Special Correspondent): Khalid Gill, leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and ticket-holder in the 2008 general elections, has formally requested a special session of the Senate of Pakistan on the occasion of Minority Day to be held on August 11, 2025.

The letter has been addressed to President Asif Ali Zardari, Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, and Parliamentary Leader of PPP in the Senate, Senator Sherry Rehman. The request highlights the need to continue the precedent set by the National Assembly’s special sessions in 2022 and 2023, which focused on the constitutional, legal, and social rights of Pakistan’s religious minorities.

Khalid Gill acknowledged the historical contributions of PPP leadership—including Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, President Asif Ali Zardari, former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, and former Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf—for legislative reforms benefiting the marginalized and patriotic minority communities of Pakistan.

The proposed session, he stated, would serve as a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s constitutional commitments and send a positive message internationally regarding minority rights and inclusion. He concluded with prayers for the success of the leadership and the empowerment of minority voices in the country’s highest legislative forum.
