Islamabad— In a heartfelt tribute on the occasion of Sweden’s National Day, the Embassy of Sweden in Pakistan honored the remarkable legacy of Wenny Lekardal, a Swedish nurse and missionary whose nearly four decades of selfless service left a profound impact on countless lives across Pakistan.

"Behind every great partnership are the people that make it happen," said Her Excellency Alexandra Cannell Berg von Linde, Ambassador of Sweden to Pakistan, as she paid homage to Lekardal’s extraordinary contributions to #75YearsOfPartnership between Sweden and Pakistan.

Wenny Lekardal first arrived in Pakistan in the 1980s. Her journey of compassion took her across Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, and Taxila, where she cared for the most vulnerable communities. Fluent in both Urdu and Punjabi, she not only provided essential medical care and led vaccination campaigns but also trained and mentored generations of Pakistani nurses, becoming a symbol of hope and humanity.

In 2021, Wenny was honored with the Pride of Performance award by the President of Pakistan, one of the nation’s highest civilian honors—recognition of her unwavering commitment to service, cultural bridge-building, and enduring legacy.

“Wenny Lekardal is one of the shining stories of our partnership with Pakistan,” said Ambassador Alexandra Cannell Berg von Linde. “Her devotion exemplifies the compassion and cooperation that define Swedish-Pakistani relations.”

The Embassy also extended warm greetings to friends and guests celebrating both Sweden’s National Day and Eid ul Azha, blending joyful cultural festivities with a message of peace, unity, and mutual respect.

"Shukria and Tack så mycket to everyone who joined us to celebrate this special moment," the Embassy shared, adding festive Eid greetings in both English and Urdu: “آپ سب کو عید الاضحیٰ بہت بہت مبارک ہو. May this Eid bring peace, joy & a spirit of sharing and compassion.”
