PARIS: A significant collection of smuggled archaeological artefacts from Balochistan, which had been seized by French Customs in recent years and subsequently handed over to the Embassy of Pakistan in Paris, has been successfully repatriated to Pakistan. These historically valuable items were confiscated by French authorities in compliance with France's obligations under the UNESCO 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export, and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property. Both Pakistan and France are signatories to this international agreement, which aims to combat the illegal trafficking of cultural heritage.

According to a press release issued by the Information Section of the Embassy of Pakistan in Paris, the safe return of these artefacts was made possible through extensive efforts and close coordination between the two nations. This successful repatriation underscores the strong bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and France in the cultural domain, reflecting their shared commitment to preserving global heritage.

For Pakistan, the recovery of these rare and invaluable artefacts carries profound cultural and historical significance. They serve as a tangible connection to the region's ancient past, offering insights into the rich heritage of Balochistan. The return of these items marks a crucial step in safeguarding Pakistan's archaeological treasures and reinforces international efforts to combat the illicit trade of cultural property.

The repatriation has been hailed as a milestone in cultural preservation, demonstrating the effectiveness of international collaboration in protecting heritage. Authorities from both countries have expressed their commitment to further strengthening such cooperation to prevent the unlawful trafficking of antiquities in the future.
